|Title:||Legal Secretary |
|Qualification:||Certificate of Legal Studies|
Before joining the firmI worked in a number of smaller practices as a legal secretary. Over about a seven year period I gained good experience there and carried out a number of roles which varied from dealing with defence and plaintiff litigation to conveyancing and general office administration.
Why I joined
Although I enjoyed my time in the smaller practices, I felt that moving to a larger practice would afford me much greater career advancement opportunities. When I arrived, I certainly wasn't disappointed! In my first week alone I was able to attend two seminars, one of which was on digital dictation, which has really made everyone's lives a lot easier!
I initially joinedin May 2007 as a float secretary. In this role, I worked in various departments in the firm, including health services, residential property and commercial property.
The working atmosphere
Working in a number of different departments meant that I was able to get to meet people in the firm very easily. It also ensured that I was able to gain valuable experience in the different types of law that the firm deals with. I finally settled in Commercial Property about two years ago and have an extremely busy varied workload, so no one day is the same.
We also have regular staff outings which gives everybody a chance to socialise and catch up. It's a genuinely nice place to work with a great team culture running throughout the firm.
The firm regularly holds training and development courses for staff and actively encourages them to attend these. I feel that these are a great way to progress within an organisation and should be a key consideration for anyone looking to make a move.
