Friday, 05 May 2017

ByrneWallace, in association with Technology Ireland, hosted a seminar entitled “Smart Funding: Flexible options for funding growth in the tech sector” on Thursday, 27 April at their offices on Harcourt Street.

Over 100 CEO and directors from Ireland's leading indigenous and international technology companies attended the event and heard a panel of industry experts, including keynote speaker Garry Moroney CEO of Clavis Insight, share insights on the Irish funding landscape.

Clavis Insight is one of the global leaders in the provision of ecommerce store analytics for international consumer goods brands. In 2015, the company raised over US$20 million equity investment from private equity firm Accel-KKR and existing investors. Clavis Insight used the funding raised to underpin its ambitious growth strategy and at the conference Garry shared an overview of the company’s funding journey. ByrneWallace advised Clavis Insight on this transaction.

Garry’s presentation was followed by a panel discussion on the various funding options currently available in the market and on how Irish technology companies can best leverage these. Panellists included Adrian Mullett, Head of Technology sector, Bank of Ireland; Julian Seymour, Investment Consultant, HBAN (Halo Business Angel Network); Nicola McClafferty, Investment Director, Draper Esprit; and Shane Lanigan, Director, BMS Finance. The discussion was moderated by Darren Daly, who leads the Technology Group at ByrneWallace.

Commenting on the event, Darren Daly said, “We were delighted to see so many members of the Irish technology community attend and participate in the event. The panel discussion was extremely informative and provided an extensive overview of the range of funding options available at all stages of the company life cycle. It also provided valuable and practical tips to companies and founders who are currently seeking funding on how to approach funders and conduct a funding deal."

Paul Sweetman, ‎Director of Technology Ireland added, “Ireland has a thriving software and technology sector. Irish companies are making their mark internationally, winning flagship customers and contracts. To build on these great successes, it is crucial that we leverage the expertise, knowledge and experience embedded in the Irish technology ecosystem. The funding for growth conference is a strong example of how we can bring leaders together from the across the technology and investment community. It is at these events where we learn from each other and capitalise on the sector’s potential.”
