ByrneWallace wins Litigation Case of the Year at the Irish Law Awards 2014

Thursday, 08 May 2014

ByrneWallace is delighted to be announced as winner of the Litigation Case of the Year category at the Irish Law Awards 2014. The award was for the landmark case of Hogan & Others v The Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Ireland and the Attorney General. In this case, ByrneWallace successfully acted on behalf of former employees of Waterford Wedgwood in Court of Justice of the European Union ("CJEU") proceedings on Ireland's failure to adequately transpose provisions of the EU Insolvency Directive. The CJEU ruled that the Irish State has an obligation to protect the pension entitlements of Waterford Wedgwood workers after that company became insolvent.

The Irish Law Awards were established to recognise excellence in the legal profession in Ireland and we congratulate our Litigation Team for their achievement.
