The Sunday Times – Interview with Michael Walsh

Monday, 11 December 2023

“The state is delivering very well on ‘cost rental’ and social and affordable homes, but where do those who do not fall into the affordable or social category buy?”

In this interview, Partner and Chair of Property at ByrneWallace LLP, Michael Walsh, speaks with Linda Daly of The Sunday Times about the Irish residential development land market and the main actors who are shaping it. Michael references the findings of last September’s survey of 300 key housing industry experts, conducted by ByrneWallace LLP, as part of its annual Housing Convention and he comments about upcoming opportunities in 2024.

The survey was conducted live at the firm's annual Housing Convention which brought together key industry leaders and expert representatives from both private and public sectors, traditional and alternative lenders, investors and developers, to debate and discuss how supply and demand are impacting the Irish residential property market, and the types of funding required to meet current demand, in addition to funding options available to overcome the current housing market crisis.
