Retail sector

The retail sector is one of the broadest business categories in the Irish market today. It encompasses everything from small sole traders to franchise operations to some of the world's largest retail chains and department stores. Well known Irish brands trade alongside their global competitors in what is now an incredibly competitive market. Although currently the retail trade is going through a challenging period as a result of the decline in consumer spending, it is still a major contributor to the Irish economy accounting for approximately 20,000 businesses employing close to 250,000 people.
