ByrneWallace Workplace Choir places second in National Workplace Choir of the Year Competition 2018

Friday, 15 June 2018

The June issue of the Law Society Gazette features an interview with the ByrneWallace choir, Legally Sound, which was placed Runner Up in this year’s Workplace Choir of the Year Final 2018 on Sunday, 13 May at Clasac in Clontarf.

The choir, which was founded in late 2016, successfully competed against 29 other choirs representing organisations such as NTMA, Central Bank of Ireland, Citibank, BNY Mellon, Eirgrid, Irish Life and Beaumont Hospital to secure a coveted place in the Final. Directed by Maria Stanley (Choral Director) and accompanied by Roy Holmes, Legally Sound performed ‘The Pink Panther’ by Henry Mancini and ‘Adiemus’ from ‘Songs of Sanctuary’ by Karl Jenkins.

The ByrneWallace choir brings together voices from across the firm and held their first performance of Christmas carols for staff in December 2016. They entered the National Workplace Choir of The Year Competition (in association with Lyric FM) for the first time in April 2017, progressing to the Finals that year.

The choir’s performance in this competition brought them to the attention of Aidlink, an international charity for relief in Africa, who invited ByrneWallace to perform at the National Concert Hall in November 2017, as part of a national fundraising concert. The concert involved pairing workplace and community choirs with well-known Irish music acts to perform, and Legally Sound were paired with well-known Irish band, The Pale. Following the concert, in February 2018, the band invited ByrneWallace to appear on stage with them at Whelan’s, Dublin, as backing singers!

Commenting on the choir’s success, former Managing Partner Catherine Guy said, “We are very proud of Legally Sound’s achievement and success, and extremely impressed by their effort and commitment. We actively encourage participation in social activities that help to foster greater teamwork and a sense of camaraderie and pride in the firm. Legally Sound are great ambassadors for us and having heard them perform,  I have no doubt that with their talent, they will go on to  achieve even greater things.”

The overall winners of the National Workplace Choir of the Year 2018 were the Sacred Heart of Jesus National School Staff Choir, under the leadership of Eileen Murray, who took away the prize for a second year in a row. The choir sang two pieces – ‘And So It Goes’ by Billy Joel and ‘Amarillas’.
