ByrneWallace LLP Employment Law Team are delighted to announce the firm’s annual conference dealing with employment law developments in the public sector, which we are hosting online in association with Legal Island, between 9.20am and 1.00pm on Thursday, 27 May 2021.

This conference has been designed to meet the specific needs of public sector organisations, and the topics for discussion on the day have been chosen based on feedback from HR professionals working in this sector.  

At the conference, employment law experts from ByrneWallace LLP will provide legal updates on topical employment law issues, and senior public sector HR experts will discuss the practicalities of remote working in the public sector. 

The full programme of topics to be discussed will be as follows: 

  • New Codes for the New Abnormal:
    • New Code of Practice on workplace bullying.
    • New Code of Practice on the right to disconnect.
    • Proposed right to request remote working.
  • Legal Update on Employment Law Developments for the Public Sector:
    • The vaccine roll-out, employees who refuse to get the vaccine, and related issues.
    • Covid-related case law including Kubilius v Kent Foods (dismissal for refusal to wear a face mask); Operations Coordinator v Facilities Management Service Provider (Refusal to allow remote working leads to constructive dismissal award); and Security Officer v Security Company (WRC orders re-engagement following remote gross misconduct dismissal).
    • Recent changes to the WRC hearings and procedures arising from the Supreme Court decision in Zalewski v WRC.
    • Other key case law relevant to the public sector.
     
  • Remote, Blended, Hub or Hybrid: Exploring Remote Options for a Public Sector Workforce: 
    • In panel discussion format, a legal expert from ByrneWallace LLP and HR and policy experts from the public sector discuss practical issues arising from the Government’s remote working strategy.
