Monday, 20 May 2024

ByrneWallace LLP is delighted to have advised on the Portfolio Deal of the Year which was announced at the inaugural Irish Investor Awards 2024, in association with Mazars, on Friday, 17 May at the Mansion House. The deal was the sale of the hugely successful Mexican food chain Boojum to the Azzurri Group.

The Irish Investor Awards are an exclusive celebration of excellence in the world of private equity, venture capital investment and finance. They aim to recognise and honour the outstanding achievements, innovation, and dedication of individuals and organisations in the financial industry.

The Portfolio Deal of the Year celebrates a remarkable bolt-on acquisition or partnership or an exit that has significantly enhanced an existing portfolio or delivered market leading returns. The award recognises strategic foresight and successful integration, showcasing how the deal has added substantial value to the core business, demonstrating a keen eye for synergistic growth opportunities in the market, and where an exit has occurred, how the investor has added to the business to deliver the growth and premium financial returns.

Boojum is a much loved chain of Mexican-inspired burrito bars with locations across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Established in Belfast in 2007, it has grown to become one of Ireland’s most popular casual dining chains with 14 stores. The sale of the business marks another significant milestone in the development of this business.

The Boojum deal was Renatus’ first exit from its first fund.

A ByrneWallace LLP multi-disciplinary team advised the shareholders of Boojum on this transaction, led by Corporate Partner Eamonn Carey.

The team included Zelda Deasy (Partner, Data Protection/GDPR), Liam Connellan (Partner, Pensions Law), Emmet Connolly (Associate, Corporate), Michelle McVeigh (Partner, Property), Paraic O’Kennedy (Partner, Banking and Finance), John Crowe (Senior Associate, Banking and Finance), Laura Greene (Partner, Technology), Mark O’Shaughnessy (Partner, Litigation and Dispute Resolution), and Brian Murphy (Associate, Employment Law).
