ByrneWallace outlines 10 Step Plan to prepare for GDPR at ISO 27001 Conference

Thursday, 27 April 2017

As Ireland's first and only large Irish law firm with ISO 27001, ByrneWallace is pleased to sponsor and speak at one of the industry's leading annual conferences on information security and data protection, the ISO 27001 Conference which took place in Croke Park, Wednesday 26 April 2017.

Over 200 delegates attended, including CEOs, IT Managers and data management officers from a range of Irish businesses, data centres, Government bodies, financial institutions and other organisations controlling the flow of information through their infrastructure, and heard from industry experts and business leaders as they shared practical insights on information risk management, dealing with cybercrime and how their organisations attained the ISO 27001 standard

ByrneWallace lawyer Seán O'Donnell, from our Corporate Crime, Regulatory Investigations and Enforcement Team, discussed upcoming changes in data protection law - the advent of the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) - which will come into effect in Ireland and across the EU from 28 May 2018.

Seán also discussed the increased fines for data breaches and non-compliance, and outlined key steps businesses can implement now to start preparing their organisations for the new GDPR.
